The technological education at the University of Ruse started in 1954 with the first part-time lecturers and engineers Stefan Popsavov, Ivan Dimitrov and Rafael Beraha.

The beginning of the then future Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Faculty dates back to 1957, when the Department of Technology and Metal Treatment was established with its first Head - Valcho Michev, PhD and the first lecturers and engineers - Bogomil Antonov, Stanislav Stamenov, Nako Nakovn Yakim Yakimov and the technician Vassil Dimitrov.

In 1972 the Department of Technology and Metal Treatment divided into two departments: Material Science and Technology and Technology of Machine Tools and Manufacturing. In 1992 some of the lecturers set up the Department of Metrology and Quality in Mechanical Engineering. In 2000 the Departments Metrology and Quality in Mechanical Engineering and Technology of Machine Tools and Manufacturing merge into the present Department of Technology of Machine Tools and Manufacturing

Besides these two departments Technology of Machine Tools and Manufacturing and Material Science and Technology, a third Department is added to the Faculty - Mechanics.

The Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for the education and training of students in the following degree programmes: Mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Management and Metrology, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. Lecturers from the Faculty have classes in other faculties, teaching subjects that provide technical and technological knowledge and skills.
