The technological education at the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" began in 1954 by the part-time teachers Stefan Popsavov, Ivan Dimitrov and Raphael Beraha. In 1955, the first regular assistants were appointed - engineer Bogomil Antonov, engineer Stanislav Stamenov and engineer Yakim Yakimov. The technician Vasil Dimitrov was appointed as the master specialist.

As an administrative unit at the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev", the department was founded in 1957 under the name "Technology and Metal Processing", with the head Dr. Valcho Michev, teachers and assistants Eng. Bogomil Antonov, Eng. Stanislav Stamenov, Eng. Nako Nakov, engineer Yakim Yakimov and technician Vasil Dimitrov.This is the beginning of the future Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

   In 1972, the department "Technology and Processing of Metals" was divided and the departments "Metal Science and Technology of Metals" and "Technology of Mechanical Engineering and Metal Cutting Machines" were founded, and in 1992 some of the teachers founded the department "Metrology and Quality in Mechanical Engineering". In 2000, the departments "Metrology and Quality in Mechanical Engineering" and "Technology of Mechanical Engineering and Metal Cutting Machines" were merged and the current department "Technology of Mechanical Engineering and Metal Cutting Machines" was formed.

  The " Technology of Mechanical Engineering and Metal Cutting Machines" department is a profiling department responsible for training students from the "Mechanical Engineering", "Industrial Engineering", "Quality Management and Metrology" and "Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics" majors. Lecturers from the department conduct classes for students from other faculties in disciplines providing their technological skills.
