The number of state - approved vacancies for admission ranks RU 11th out of 41 higher education institutions and the number of state-approved doctoral study vacancies ranks it 4th out of 34 such instutions.

Number of applicants for 2001-2002:   3759 (RU ranks 9th out of 17 higher education  instutions from all regions of the country, for which there was data available)

Number of applicants competing for one vacancy:   3,12 ( RU ranks 9th out of 17 institutions)

Admission: principal competition (with two admissions by 18.08.01) – 84,23% of the vacancies taken; additional competition (with two admissions by 31.08.01).

    This was a repetition of last year’s most succeessful admission for the last 6 years based on the following criteria: term of completion, minimum GPA, rate of admitted but not enrolled students, etc

RU is the only university in the present and former Ruse region (with a population of approximately 1 million), which is in keeping with the international index “one hihger education institution per one million people”.

RU ranks 10th among the largest higher education institutions comparing indexes, such as: number of state-approved vacancies for admission, overall number of students, number of doctoral study students, size of state subsidy, applicants versus approved vacancies ratio, etc, and is among the 10 biggest universities in Bulgaria.

The University is the only Bulgarian higher education institution which is a regular member of the European Association of Universities from the Danube Countries.

RU was accredited on 13th May, 1999 by the National Evaluation and Accreditation

Agency for a five – year period with the highest grade – “very good”.
