KINESITHERAPY AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
The Department of KINESITHERAPY (PHYSIOTHERAPY) was established in 1992 and provides full-time education in Physiotherapy for Bulgarian and foreign students. In 2006 the first OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY programme in the country was open.
The Department of Kinesitherapy maintains international relationship and collaboration with universities from the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Germany, Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Spain, Hungary, Romania and others, by the membership of the University of Ruse in the European Network of Occupational Therapy in Higher Education (ENOTHE) and in the European Network of Physiotherapy in Higher Education (ENPHE).
MATERIAL BASE

hydrotherapy room with sauna, hydromassage and swift bath;
physical therapy and rehabilitation room with electrotherapy, and suspension and pully therapy equipment.
EDUCATION
In order to gain professional qualifications of kinesitherapists/occupational therapists, students need to pass successfully all compulsory and elective courses in the curriculum. Graduation procedure includes preparation and defense of a graduation paper and practical graduation examination.
Physiotherapists are competent to carry out functional diagnostics, prevention, therapy and rehabilitation with motor activity methods for different age and professional groups, including health education, healthy lifestyle promotion and sports. They can work in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, sanatoriums, nursing homes, homes for elderly, hotels, resorts (SPA), fitness centers, sports dispensaries, professional and amateur sport clubs, and in the sphere of education.
Occupational therapists are competent to develop, restore and maintain daily living skills for selfcare, productivity and leisure of persons with physical, mental and emotional disabilities, and to adapt the home, school and work environment in order to compensate for permanently impaired function. They can work in hospitals, (psychiatric) clinics, daily centers, home care programmes, special and regular schools, homes for elderly, vocational training centers, insurance companies.
The Department of KINESITHERAPY provides the necessary material base, information resources, and qualified personnel, to respond to current requirements and to ensure high level of education.
TEACHING STAFF
There are 18 lecturers at the Department of KINESITHERAPY, four of them Associate Professors, and one has a PhD degree.
